I often get this question asked, and my answer is simple: THE BEST does not exist. Or it is probably the one you are already comfortable using.
The reason for that is that features and capabilities of the available solutions change quickly and often, therefore “the best” might be “second-best” the next day.
Let me give you some concrete examples of this rapid evolution:
Claude launched a feature called Artifacts, making it possible to better organize generated output and chat conversations. Shortly after, ChatGPT got a canvas feature, which is very similar.
ChatGPT on the other hand published a desktop app, Claude followed after that.
Perplexity integrated web search into its product, something ChatGPT and Mistral now also have. Google released Gemini, adding yet another strong competitor to the mix.
Each AI company regularly publishes benchmark comparisons where – unsurprisingly – their own solution leads in certain metrics, making it even harder for users to make objective comparisons.
Adding to the complexity, many of these new features are released in beta or alpha states, often with bugs or limitations. Companies rush to announce “version 1.0” of features to stay competitive, but users frequently encounter instability or incomplete implementations. This “release fast” approach means that a highly promoted feature might not be truly usable for weeks or months after its announcement.
These rapid developments highlight a crucial point: choosing one should not be based on a single feature, but overall capability and, most importantly, how it fits into your workflow.
My advice is to get on monthly plans right now, not yearly subscriptions, so you can switch with ease often.
For evaluating the different solutions, the free plans are still good enough to get a solid feel for each platform’s strengths and limitations.
Remember, the “best” AI assistant is ultimately the one that helps you get your work done most effectively. Don’t get caught up in the feature race – focus on finding the tool that integrates smoothly into your daily routine and consistently delivers value for your specific needs.
