When we think about image creation with AI, we often think about creating photorealistic images, but there are many other use cases.
One is the creation of comic strips.
And with image creation directly integrated in ChatGPT, it has become easier to get from prompt to visual.
There are many ways to approach this, for example:
- Develop the script and story with AI
- Turn some of your existing content into comics
The easiest to try this out is of course by picking a story you already got.
For this example, I tried turning a blog post into a comic strip.
In my initial prompt, I asked ChatGPT to turn a blog post about Google AI Overview into a story between two characters.

The generated script was not usable, so I kept improving it until I landed at a version which was good enough.

ChatGPT offered to try out different visual forms for the comic strip.
I went ahead and tried all three of them.

After pencil sketch I tried flat modern:

Then I went on to create the full comic strip, and this is when it got a bit frustrating.
ChatGPT created the full comic strip, but it was not able to keep every detail between each story panel the same.
For example, the writing had errors, it lost character elements from one panel to the other, and so on.

The next thing about working on this in ChatGPT is that you are not able to re-create the same image. So, in my follow-up prompt, it created the comic strip in a completely different style.

As you can see in the comic strip created above, the characters are not created consistently: the beard gets lost, the clothing changes, and more.
I did not give up and prompted explicitely:
Try recreating it again:
- Stay laser focused on getting the characters right
- to not miss any part of the story
- and that the writing/spelling is correct ot not incomplete
Which led to this comic strip:

The best result after experimenting with creating a comic strip in ChatGPT. Still, you can immediately spot a few errors.
Conclusion
AI brings creativity to content creation. While the results still lack details and originality, we must remember we are using version 1.0 products. This will only get better from here.
Also, for this experiment, I was lazy prompting. If you invest more time in crafting better prompts and infusing specific information about your brand and style, you can already create comic strips that reflect your brand details in greater detail.
After all, you can look at this from the standpoint of prototyping different content formats, experimenting with storytelling, and later engaging a visual artist to work on the project.
