Adobe Premiere Rush – Video Editing Tool on the Go [Review]

Every content creator has to create videos now and then. But suppose you will not make elaborate long videos and only occasionally need video-editing solutions for short and simple clips. In that case, it may not be worth it to purchase some advanced software like Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere Pro.

However, Adobe has come up with a solution that will definitely come in handy for occasional video-makers called Adobe Premiere Rush. And with it, you can do it all from your smartphone.

What is Adobe Premiere Rush?

It is a video-editing program that you can even use on the go and work from your mobile phone, and we are going to test how it works.

The version of Adobe Premiere Rush for the phone is free. However, some of its functions are in the chargeable Pro version.

All you need to do to use this app is to download it and sign up via Google, Facebook, or your Creative Cloud Account. After this is done, you’re set up to edit your videos.

How it works

To begin the video editing, you have to create a new project and add the media you want.

First of all, you can choose your video format: a horizontal rectangle, a square, or a vertical rectangle. This is very useful, as you can adjust the video for the platform you will be sharing it at. For instance, the vertical rectangle is perfect for Instagram Stories.

In this app, you can

  • cut the videos,
  • change the order,
  • make the video faster or slower,
  • change the media’s color and contrast,
  • and add transitions, music, and text.

To make an element longer or shorter, you have to press on it for a second and drag it once you see the orange edge.

You will see each new element as a new icon, which you can move and adjust to your needs. You can zoom in and out to see all the details or have an overview.

Premiere Rush Features

Another nice feature is that you can voiceover your clip in just one click. After clicking on the microphone button, you will see a countdown to help you start talking on time.

If you don’t feel like talking but want some background music, you can add it too. However, only music from Adobe’s database is available. It’s impossible to upload your tracks or synchronize the app to music services like Spotify or Apple Music. Nevertheless, there are quite a few music pieces available in the app, and you don’t have to worry about copyright.

When it comes to adding text, the free version of Adobe Premiere Rush is a bit limited, but you can play with all the fonts and colors available.

However, it is not possible to add a color code – you have to look for the color needed manually. This is a disadvantage if you work with corporate colors. But to make things easier, once you’ve found the necessary shade, you can add it to the library. This step will spare you a lot of time.

You can also change the style of individual words within a graphic, so don’t forget to choose the whole text when editing it.

It is also possible to change the size and position of the text, as well as add as many graphics to a clip as you want.

Quick Example

The Interface

Of course, it takes some time to understand the apps’ user interface, but it’s the case with pretty much every content creation app, especially when it goes to video editing. Adobe Rush is quite intuitive, and you will get used to it fast.

Another nice thing is that you can save all the footage in the cloud. You get 2GB in the free version.

All in all, Adobe Premiere Rush is a nice application with a good feature set, which you can get for free. It has all tools one needs to create a simple video clip.

Free vs Premium version

It has more features in the paid version. The one disadvantage is that you can’t filter out the pro version content, so it’s necessary to scroll through everything to find something you need.

The pro version content is marked with a star, and you can check it out by adding it to your video. But to export a clip with pro content, it is necessary to purchase the pro version.

A notification in the app making you aware that you are using a pro feature

There are different possibilities to do that, depending on which apps you need. The simplest version with only Premiere Rush will cost you 10$ a month.

Sync your phone and desktop

One of the coolest features the paid version has is the synchronization between the desktop and mobile versions. Of course, you also get more cloud storage in that case. So you can make some changes on the go right on your phone or tablet and then continue the work from your computer without losing any time.

Conclusion

To sum up, Adobe Premiere Rush has everything to quickly create a video on the go and is intuitive.

Personally, I am not a big fan of editing videos on the phone since everything is small and you can only work vertically. So there’s a chance to overlook something. But depending on the screen size of your phone, it may be comfortable to work from the phone. So that’s a matter of taste.

If you create simple video clips from time to time and don’t want to overcomplicate things, you should definitely give Adobe Premiere Rush a go.

All in all, Adobe Premiere Rush is a nice application with a good feature set, which you can get for free. It has all tools one needs to create a simple video clip.
