All Data You Can Eat
Article, 10min

A recent study reveals a rapidly shrinking pool of online data available for AI training, as websites increasingly restrict access to their content. This “emerging crisis in consent” affects both major AI companies and academic researchers. The trend is driven by tensions between AI developers and data set providers/content creators over data usage rights and compensation. This shift could hinder AI model updates, particularly for smaller companies and researchers who lack resources to license data directly from publishers. Sites like Reddit or Stack Overflow are now brokering deals directly with companies like OpenAI. This New York Times article is based on a study by The Data Provenance Initiative, which examined 14,000 web domains included in commonly used AI training data sets.

LinkedIn: The platform that discourages links. As soon as you add a link to your post, you only get a fraction of the reach on LinkedIn. This isn’t new, but there’s bad news for those who thought posting links in the comments was the solution. The LinkedIn algorithm now looks for links there too.

The Future of Code
Video, 15min

With the launch of ChatGPT, coding changed forever. Instead of needing to understand a programming language inside out, you can now start working on your idea by writing prompts. This TED Talk shows how coding has evolved since its beginnings and demonstrates how AI features are making it possible to code with just prompts.

Peripherals for Pros

This is the desk setup I use to create this newsletter. If you’re planning some upgrades this summer, here are my recommendations (no affiliate links):

KeyboardLogitech MX Keys Mini
A quiet keyboard without a number pad.

MouseLogitech MX Vertical
Comes with extra programmable buttons.

TrackpadApple Magic Trackpad
Great for zooming and scrolling; keeps my left hand agile.

HeadphonesSony In-Ear Headphones
For online meetings, I prefer wired headphones. No battery power to check, no Bluetooth connections to establish.

WatchBraun Gents Classic Watch
The large numbers make it easy to see when it’s time to leave a meeting at a glance.

AI Workflow: Create, Preview, and Publish All in One Place!
Productivity

Claude AI released an experimental feature called Artifacts. With it, you can create, test, and publish your work from one central interface without any third-party tools. It’s different from other chat tools in that it previews the created code/design/content similar to a developer environment—you don’t have to switch to a different app to preview the generated content. This is a huge update and makes Claude the simplest AI Chat interface for idea execution.

Creating design, code, and content using AI isn’t the news here; what’s fresh is how Claude AI seamlessly blends these disciplines! The feature can be tried without a paid account. See more on that in Fresh Reflections section below.

Storyboards without drawing skills
Design

That’s the promise of StoryTribe. Instead of drawing, you drag and drop elements onto a canvas and customize them. The final result can be downloaded or shared, and creating storyboards is just one use case. Graphics for social media, blogs, and more are also possible. You can try out StoryTribe with their free plan. (Screenshot)

Project Management inside Slack
Design

Slack has added a new feature called Lists. It allows you to create tasks from Slack messages, add them to a board, and share these lists with team members across Slack. The feature is okay-ish and definitely not spectacular right now, but it may be good enough for short-term projects handled within small teams. (Screenshot)

Text 2 Image On the Go
GenAI

Microsoft Designer, an AI-powered text-to-image service, now offers mobile apps for iOS and Android. It’s a fun tool for on-the-go experimentation. A nice touch is the helpful prompt suggestions it provides as you type. (Screenshots)

The New York Times challenges readers to view a single painting for 10 minutes, providing both the image and a timer.
