We are experiencing what feels like a gold rush in tech, driven by Artificial Intelligence since the public release of tools like ChatGPT.
This reminds me of the Klondike Gold Rush in the late 19th century. Thousands embarked on journeys with dreams of striking it rich, but the reality was harsh. It’s estimated that of around 100,000 prospectors, no more than 4,000 struck gold, and only a few hundred became truly rich.
Some of us work at companies digging for gold. Only a few of them will be successful. It’s a high-risk, high-reward business: high investment, big teams, high pressure. That is OpenAI, Anthropic, Perplexity, and the like.
Others are selling the pans and shovels—the data centers and GPUs needed to get in the position to dig. Corporations like Nvidia, Microsoft, and Amazon are the players here. They have high investments and big teams, too. However this gold rush ends, they will have made much money along the way.
Then, there are the people explaining how to dig and how to use the different types of equipment. That’s the AI consultants, bloggers, and influencers. It’s quite intense while going through the rush, but not as high a financial risk. The biggest risk might be ignoring AI here. That’s millions of people and businesses worldwide.
This AI gold Rush is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for many. Something like this will not come a second time in your life.
What’s your role in it? How much risk are you going to take? How important is it for you to take part in it?
