On 11 November, the third Devices & Mobility Day took place at Microsoft Austria. Visitors could try out the current devices from Microsoft’s hardware partners. Practical demonstrations and consultancy meetings rounded off the Devices & Apps exhibition. Microsoft used its own office premises at Wienerberg and for this purpose transformed the entire ground floor as well as the 1st floor, which is normally only accessible to employees. Review the event again with photos from the day as well as partner and customer feedback on video and get information on the background to the event.
Partners at the Devices & Mobility Day
More than 15 hardware partners took the opportunity to exhibit their latest products today at the Devices & Mobility Day. From water-proof and shock-resistant smart phones for use in industry to ultrabooks and convertibles with long battery lives for field work. For the first time, app partners were also there presenting their business solutions on the Microsoft platform. The Devices & Apps exhibition showed that there is the right device or app on the Microsoft platform to suit every taste. A few impressions:
Journalists & Bloggers
Journalists were given a guided tour through the Devices & Apps exhibition at the start of the event. More than 15 journalists were present. An event report is available at derstandard.at as well as a first short review of the first Microsoft Lumia Phone, the Lumia 535.
This year, bloggers were also invited to the Devices & Mobility Day. In addition to a personal tour through the Devices & Apps exhibition there was the option to attend a lecture held by Georg Binder (technical evangelist at Microsoft). Subject: how Microsoft customer feedback can be integrated into product development.
Microsoft Products at the Event
In addition to the current devices from the various hardware producers there was also the opportunity to gain an impression of Microsoft’s forthcoming new products. Apart from the already available Surface Pro 3, visitors to the event were able to gain a first impression of the latest Windows phone, namely the Lumia 535. It is the same as the Microsoft Band, which is unfortunately not yet available in Austria, but which of course a few Microsoft employees already own. Windows 10 presents the next big update to Microsoft’s operating system. Georg Binder gives an insight into the current state of development in this short interview.
About the Devices & Mobility Day
Larissa Forster, Product Marketing Manager for Windows at Microsoft Austria, on the Devices & Mobility Day.
How long have you been holding the Devices & Mobility Day and how did the idea come about?
Larissa Forster: The idea came about three years ago after we had received more and more customer feedback, criticising the fact that there was the opportunity to try out current devices from our hardware partners at our events. Although we organise a large number of events for IT decision makers, developers or generally for partners and customers, the devices played a secondary role, however. At the Devices & Mobility Day, all our hardware partners’ devices come to the fore and visitors can put their questions directly to the manufacturers. In addition, we offer the opportunity to attend talks. Our customers related real-life examples of the use of our technology, and Microsoft experts gave insights into forthcoming products.
Who visits the Devices & Mobility Day? What is the objective for Microsoft?
Mainly business and IT managers who are financial decision-makers in companies and who want to gain an overview of current hardware and apps on the Microsoft platform. Regardless of whether it is mobile devices with long battery life for field workers or robust devices for industry – the Devices & Mobility Day demonstrates that there is the right device for every taste. App partners also demonstrated how sector solutions can be used on various devices. In addition to the decision makers we also invite the press and, as of this year, the social media community and bloggers as a regular feature.
Will there be another Devices & Mobility Day in 2015?
Yes, very likely! We are currently evaluating the feedback from partners and customers and in the Spring will start to plan the Devices & Mobility Day 2015. In the meantime, we are recommending that people follow our Microsoft at Work Facebook page.
